OPEN ENROLLMENT
The March 1st deadline has been reinstated for the
2025-2026 school year.
The Open Enrollment law permits a wide range of educational choices for students enrolled in schools in Iowa. A parent/guardian may request open enrollment to a district other than the district of residence. The receiving district can deny the application if there is not sufficient room in the requested class(es). Additional information is available at the Iowa Department of Education.
Classes do fill up and applications will be accepted in the order they are received. It is wise to get your paperwork in as soon as possible. Once a student is open enrolled to West Des Moines Community Schools, they do not need to apply again; yet, if another family member wants to open enroll, they must apply.
Once you complete the necessary paperwork, it must be given to the WDM Community School District and to your resident school district.
